Golf Club Monticello

The Monticello Golf Club was founded in 1974 on about 140 hectares and has two, 18-hole courses. It has hosted seven Italian competitions, attracting the most prestigious professionals in the world.

At the moment, Monticello is one of the leading Italian golf clubs with top level modern amenities. Over the years, the original layout of the fairways has been changed and developed by a number of architects, but Graham Cooke is the name behind the present conformation.
Monticello Golf Club brings together the spirit of this grand old sport with the colourful paradise of vast green spaces on which more than 600 villa-apartments are located.
With its two courses, Monticello Golf Club is the largest in Italy - the pride of Italian golf.

The now fully achieved aim of the Club, which became a reference for later similar constructions, was to create a sporting/ residential structure where member residents could live in a community at one with nature. The urban and architectural projects were drawn up by Architect Luigi Caccia Dominioni. The two international courses which are constantly being modified by well known architects owe their present layout to the intervention of Graham Cooke. The merit of the structure was immediately acknowledged internationally and Monticello was awarded the organisation of the Italian Open in 1975. This was won by Billy Casper.

The Italian Open was held six more times over the following years with the wins of some of the greatest players in the world: Sam Torrance, Sandy Lyle and Greg Norman who, along with Constantino Rocca, remains the record holder of the course at 63 strokes. Every year male and female amateur international tournaments are held at Monticello Golf Club, including, over the years, The European Amateur Team Championships ( won in 1999 by Italian players), The European Boys Team Championships and International Female Championships. Today Monticello, with its two international courses of 18 holes, is one of the most important and prestigious Clubs in Italy.
